Attractive locations

Musandam Peninsula

A rugged peninsula jutting into the Strait of Hormuz, with steep mountains plunging into the sea and deep inlets. Boat trips from Khasab are the usual way to see its fjord-like scenery.

Khasab Fort

A 17th-century fort beside the harbour in Khasab, built by the Portuguese. Part of the building is now a small museum about the history and local life of Musandam.

Telegraph Island

A small island in an inlet of the peninsula, where a telegraph relay station once operated in the 19th century. Boats stop here for swimming and snorkelling in the sheltered water.

Elphinstone Inlet

A long, narrow fjord-like inlet cut deep into the mountains, with steep cliffs and calm water. Dhow trips explore the bay, and dolphins are often seen along the way.

Jabal Al Harim

The highest mountain in the Omani part of the Musandam peninsula, reached by a road that climbs steeply from the coast. Visitors come for cool air, bare rock and long views.
