Emergency & help

Numbers to save before you travel, and who can help if you lose your passport or need a doctor.

Emergency numbers

Numbers differ by country. Find the local police, ambulance and fire numbers on the country page and save them in your phone before you travel. If there is a language problem, ask your hotel to call for you.

Lost passport or serious trouble

Report a lost passport to the nearest police station (get the police report), then contact your embassy or consulate for an emergency travel document. Keep a photo of your passport in your e-mail or phone - it speeds everything up. Save your embassy's or consulate's contact details before you travel.

Hospitals

Hospital standards and costs vary by country. Ask your hotel or your travel insurer for the nearest suitable hospital, and contact your insurer as early as you can.
