A mountain park around Mount Everest, home to Sherpa villages, monasteries and high Himalayan scenery. It is a World Heritage site and the setting for the classic trekking routes of the region.

Mount Everest

The highest mountain on Earth, on the border of Nepal and Tibet. Most visitors view it from trekking routes and viewpoints rather than climbing, and clear mornings give the best views.

Gokyo Lakes

A chain of blue-green lakes high in the mountains, reached by a side route from the main Everest trails. Gokyo Ri, a nearby peak, gives wide views across the lakes and glaciers.

Everest Base Camp (South)

The trekking destination at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall, where climbing expeditions camp in spring. It is reached on foot over several days from Lukla.

Namche Bazaar

The main Sherpa trading town on the route to Everest, built on a hillside shaped like an amphitheatre. Trekkers stop here to rest and adjust to altitude, with shops, bakeries and cafes.
